Volunteer

Note: We do not have any general volunteer openings at this time. Teens looking to volunteer are invited to join the Library Initiative for Teens.

Who can be a volunteer?
You must be a resident of the town of Winchester, MA and be at least 14 years old. Volunteers aged 18 + must also consent to a CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) check before starting their volunteer work.

What do volunteers do?
Possible jobs include shelf-reading and mending books. Most volunteer assignments do not require special skills. They do require dependability, a commitment of time, and the willingness to fulfill a chosen assignment. Per the Trustees Policy, the Library does not use volunteers as substitutes for regular paid staff.

Library Initiative for Teens

Teens (grades 6-12) are invited to join the LIT-Library Initiative for Teens, a group for teens who want to help make the library the best it can be! In this group we will have opportunities for you to help in a variety of ways – help make choices on what we should buy for the collection, create programs for all to attend, work on social media posts, and create decorations to brighten the Teen Space. You can work on what’s right for you! For every meeting attended the librarian will sign off on an hour of volunteer credit.

The group meets on the first and third Tuesday of the month at 4:00pm during the school year. Interested? Check the teen event calendar and register for an upcoming meeting!

Join the Friends of the Library Board

Anyone who makes a donation to the Friends of the Winchester Public Library is considered a Friend. There is also a volunteer Board that works directly with the Library on programs, services, and fundraising efforts. Learn more about the Friends and inquire about Board opportunities here.
