On Architecture

| |

Walk around the neighborhoods, the squares, the campuses and the office complexes in your community, even in the rain. Look up at the built environment. The creativity, the drama and the productivity of the architects of the late 19th and 20th century is all around us. The books below tell the stories of some of the most well known architects of our time. Their creative processes and personal stories will hold your interest in the waning days of summer.

If you haven’t tried Kanopy, our new streaming service, we suggest you start with Louis Sullivan: The Struggle for American Architecture or Mies, which documents Mies van der Rohe’s life and includes film footage of the architect explaining his philosophy. To view these movies you can register for Kanopy with your library card number.
