Keeping the Kids Busy

Governor Baker has ordered all Massachusetts public and private elementary and secondary schools to close for three weeks until at least April 7. If you’re looking for a few more activities for your children, try out some of these options:

Hoopla:

  • Free with your library card
  • Stream movies, ebooks, audiobooks, music, and comics.
  • Content is always available so there is no waiting
  • Select “Kids” mode to limit the collection to content for younger audiences

OverDrive:

  • Free with your library card
  • Download ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines
  • Select “Kids” or “Teens” to limit the collection to content for those audiences
  • Tip: Look for content marked “always available” or “no waiting” to avoid waitlists.

TumbleBook Library:

  • Free with your library card
  • Animated, talking picture books as well as National Geographic videos and games.

TumbleMath:

  • Free with your library card
  • K-6 math ebook database (free trial from TumbleBooks)

TeenBookCloud:

  • Free with your library card

AudioBookCloud:

  • Free with your library card

Boston Children’s Museum

New England Aquarium

  • They are adding videos, behind-the-scenes looks, and activities to do at home to their Facebook page.

Smithsonian’s Animal Cams

  • Check out the live feeds for lions, naked mole rats, pandas, and elephants.
  • Volunteers will not be operating them, so animals may not be visible at all times.
