February is Black History Month. Let’s celebrate by reading stories that are written by Black authors and feature a black protagonist. Authors that share the same identity as the characters are able to bring their lived experiences and perspectives to the story in a way that only they can. In addition to reading books, we can also experience these stories by listening to podcasts, watching Bookmarks: Celebrating Black Voices, or reading about the importance of celebrating Black authors. Below is a sampling of books that celebrate Black voices from our library, and we hope they will inspire you to seek out more Black authors in our collection.
