Winchester Public Library has been selected as one of 40 libraries nationwide to participate in the Yiddish Book Center’s Public Libraries Program on the theme Between Two Worlds: Exploring Jewish Culture and Religion through Yiddish Literature.
This program brings Yiddish literature in translation to libraries nationwide, encouraging connections and sparking cross-cultural dialogue in their communities.
As a recipient of this grant, WPL received the following curated selection of Yiddish literature in translation, all the resources needed to hold book club discussions, and generous funding for related special events. In addition to the three preselected Yiddish books in translation, the Between Two Worlds group will also read The Woman Warrior by Maxine Hong Kingston. This contemporary title was selected by Sarah Feldman, Information Services Librarian, to encourage further cross-cultural discussions.
