In partnership with CREW (Communities Responding to Extreme Weather), we have prepared these book lists for Climate Preparedness Week, September 24-30. The nonfiction titles describe the effects of climate change, and propose ideas to mitigate the damage already done, from floods and drought to habitat loss and species extinction. The fiction titles imagine future scenarios or alternate histories in which climate change plays a role, inviting readers to empathize with characters caught in those scenarios. During Climate Preparedness Week, let’s learn, think, and plan for how we can prepare ourselves and our own communities. Let’s reflect on how climate change often adversely affects those who are already most vulnerable, and consider what actions we can take.
