Seventeen Years of ROAR!!
To celebrate its one hundred years of service to the community in 1993, the Winchester Co-operative Bank chose to fund a library program to provide library outreach to the residents of Winchester. Thus, R.O.A.R. (Rush Out And Read!) was born. The summer teen R.O.A.R. Corps' middle and high school students read aloud to children at the playgrounds, swim clubs, Recreation Department camps, and beaches in Winchester. See photo albums of ROAR in action on the ROAR Facebook page.

Teen Summer Reading Program
The Library will participate in the Massachusetts state summer reading program again this year. By going to www.readsinma.org/winpublib, you’ll be able to enter your name, write reviews of the books you read, and share recommendations with other students. Just press the “sign me up” button and you can sign in to participate.
Last year Winchester teens entered almost 500 titles! This summer share your reading raves with other students. If you sign up initially from home, be sure to let us know so that we can give you a small thank-you present for participating.
After joining you can keep track of the titles you read, write a bit about them to share with other readers in the program, and make a list of titles you’d like to read which other students have recommended. Throughout the program your privacy is guaranteed.
You can share your suggestions and reviews from anywhere in the world! All you need is access to the internet and the address above. We’re excited about participating in this statewide program and know you will be too.
Books and Magazines
The Young Adult Room is on the upper floor and serves ages 12-18. It includes young adult hardcover fiction, books on CDs, paperbacks, graphic novels, and magazines. We're always happy to have suggestions about items to purchase. Young adult non-fiction is shelved with the adult collection and is often designated by a YA spine label.
A professional librarian specializing in literature for young adults is available to help you select books for recreational reading.
Click on a cover to request the book.
Homework Center
The Meeting Room on the main floor is open for students every day after school. It's a space in which you can study by yourself or work on projects with others. If you need assistance in finding information for school projects and assignments, ask any of the librarians at the Reference Desk.
Websites for Teens
ikeepbookmarks.com/WinHSLibrary. This is the Winchester High School Library's list of the best curriculum related databases and faculty recommended sources. It includes a link to easybib a website that shows how to cite sources using MLA format.
Teen Links. These websites have been selected by young adult librarians in the Minuteman Library Network (MLN). The sites are for students in grade six and up. MLN does not necessarily recommend that all teens visit all sites. We urge parents to visit the sites and to discuss them with their teens.
Citing Sources in a Bibliography
How to Cite Sources was compiled by a former Library Media Specialist at the McCall Middle School. easybib and
easybib is listed on the Winchester High School Library's ikeepbookmarks.com page.
BibMe offers a citation guide and a bibliography maker.
At the end of each article in the library Databases, there is example of how to cite the article.
