Network
@ The Library is open to all, especially entrepreneurs, consultants and others
who are self-employed or work from home, providing them with an opportunity to
meet others like themselves, talk about common problems, and learn about solutions
and resources.
Network
@ The Library started in 2004 as a drop-in networking group for entrepreneurs,
consultants and others who are self-employed, to provide them with an opportunity
to meet others like themselves, talk about common problems, and learn about solutions
and resources.
It was begun at the urging of Winchester resident
Jim Spencer, who suggested that such a collaboration could benefit both the Library
and the many entrepreneurs in town. Now Jim, who is the president of JBS Partners
(www.JBSPartners.com),
a web site design, hosting and consulting firm, says, "Attending the Network
@ the Library events, in front of the podium or behind it, has introduced
me to valuable library resources, expert local entrepreneurs and fantastic clients.
I am impressed with how well this library supports the local business community.
Great job!"
Sessions are on the third Tuesday of the month
from 10 - 11:30 a.m. in the Library's Meeting Room and include formal introductions,
networking time and a presentation on a topic of interest to entrepreneurs, generally
by a Network participant.
"I value highly the
contacts I made with local business people through the regular meetings. I very
much like that the presentations come from the members of Network. It elevates
the credibility of the speakers from mere experts to trusted advisers," says
Kaj Kandler, founder of Conficio, Inc. (www.conficio.com),
a company that develops web-based software instruction tools.
Over
the past two years topics have ranged from graphic design, marketing, and website
design to home office technology, taxes, and retirement planning, all geared toward
the self-employed or small business owner. Jean Terranova of Aunt Jeannie's, maker
of all-natural meals and snacks for children, has made practical use of these
sessions. "Small business owners must delegate certain responsibilities to
other professionals -- accountants, graphic designers, web technicians, etc. By
attending Network sessions led by these professionals, I have gained invaluable
insight into how to work with them in a cost-effective, intelligent way."
