 “Help! The Paper’s Due Tomorrow!” – Thursday, April 3 at 7 p.m.

Geared toward middle- and high-school students and/or their parents, this class will show you how to find reliable, teacher-approved information for your papers, even if the library is closed! You’ll learn how to access the full text of articles from reference books, academic journals, magazines and newspapers online through the library website with the use of your library card. Unlike much of the information that comes up in a Google search, these library database articles are taken from published works: authors are professionals or experts in their field; facts are checked; the content is identical to the original printed source; and they may be used just as books or magazines would be for your essay, research paper or project. Take an hour to learn how to use this wealth of information to make life less stressful and schoolwork more successful.

Navigating Google – Wednesday, April 9 at noon

Google has a well-deserved reputation as the top choice for those searching the web. We will show you the basic ways to access information using Google. Handouts and sample searches will be presented. Some of Google’s special features such as finding images and doing local searches will also be demonstrated.

Searching the Online Catalog – Monday, April 14 at noon

Learn about all the added features in the Library’s new version of the online catalog—how to search for books, CDs, and movies, find book summaries, create a list and request all the items on it at once, even how to pay your fines online!

More about Google – Tuesday, April 22 at noon

Google is everyone's favorite search engine, but it can be so much more! This class will highlight some of the free features and services such as maps and directions, Google Docs, Google Calendar, news alerts and free email. Learn how to take better advantage of all that google.com has to offer.
