Thank you for considering becoming a volunteer for the Winchester Public Library. All positions are currently filled, but we always accept applications to keep on file in case a position opens.
Who can be a volunteer?
Due to the staff time required for training and preparing work for volunteers, only Winchester residents will be accepted for volunteer work. Additionally, only those aged 14 and over will be accepted for junior volunteer work.
What do volunteers do?
We have a variety of jobs for volunteers both inside and outside of the Library. Most volunteer assignments do not require special skills. They do require dependability, a commitment of time, and the willingness to fulfill a chosen assignment. Possible jobs include shelving and pulling books, reading aloud/leading book discussions to residents at a local nursing home, and processing new materials. Please fill out the attached application so that we will know what kind of work you are interested in doing and when you are available.
What is the time commitment?
Volunteers should be willing to work a regular schedule of two hours per week for a minimum of three months. Once you are trained and your schedule is set, we hope that you will be able to continue working on a regular basis.
The library does recognize that volunteers need more flexibility in scheduling than paid staff and last minute cancellations will occur.
How can I apply?
Please fill out the volunteer application. Return it to the Administration Office at the library or email it to Theresa Maturevich at firstname.lastname@example.org. Copies of the applications are also available in the Administration Office at the library. Volunteers must also consent to a CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) check before starting their volunteer work.
