Cynthia Brody: Mixed Media Art
Image: Cactus Girl
Cynthia Brody has been an exhibiting artist for over 40 years. She combines photo imagery with acrylic paints and found materials to create allegorical stories and moods. Brody has created pieces that depict women, often in surreal surroundings and utilizing varied media. Photographs are used out of context for their texture and then combined with acrylic paint to give the illusion of something familiar. It is only upon closer inspection that the viewer recognizes the foreign elements. Her works incorporate elements of beauty contrasted with the strong statements and pensive attitudes of the women depicted. Old photos of women of the Victorian era are most often the starting point. Brody takes photos in nature, often finding that forms repeat themselves in a way that allows them to be representative of other things. She enjoys giving a new life to these women who are no longer alive as she casts them in unusual environments. In most cases the stories develop around the character, as do the clothing and position. It is all a mystery, even to the artist, until completed. firstname.lastname@example.org ~ cynthiabrodyart.com
